Employee Spotlight – February 2012

Roy Begay - Pitzer's Employee SpotlightThis month’s Team Member Spotlight is shining on one of our Journeyman HVAC Technicians, Roy Begay. If one word could be used to describe Roy, it would be steady. Roy has been with Pitzer’s since May of 2001! Before that he worked for the McCulloch Corporation, in their chainsaw division for 29 ½ years.

How many people can say they have held only two jobs in the past 40 years? Incredible!

So Roy, tell us where are you from? I was born in Ganado, which is a small town in North Eastern Arizona on the Reservation, North of Holbrook. We lived there until I was 15 when we moved to Kingman, where my dad had a job with the railroad. After I graduated from High School in 1972, I moved to Lake Havasu where I got a job with McCulloch!

Wow! 1972! There have been so many changes in that time. Yep.

Tell us about your family. I am the oldest of 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. I am married to Jeanett and we love to travel.

Favorite places? There are so many. We like to drive and go see the National Parks, but our favorite place to vacation is Hawaii. Ideally we would like to go every 3 years. I also have family up in Oregon that we like to go visit.

How was it you went from almost 30 years with McCulloch to be at Pitzer? When McCulloch shut down their plant here, they had a job placement program that I got involved in. I knew that my younger brother enjoyed working in HVAC so I started in the HVAC program through Mohave Community College and was hired at Pitzer as an apprentice. I started out helping in the shop, then onto installs and eventually got into the service department. I really love working with the customers and helping them be comfortable.

Editors Note: Many of our customers have a “request Roy” note in our computer which we are happy to oblige with. Thanks Roy for your steadfastness and dedication! It’s people like you that make this a great company!
