Indoor Air Quality & Ductwork
Cleaner Fresher Healthier Air, the Facts About Indoor Air Quality

Outdoor air is continually being cleansed by Mother nature using the natural processes of weather, rain, wind, lightning and untraviolet energy from the sun. Mother nature's methods of cleaning the air are not naturally present in our indoor air environement. Man-made synthetic building materials, furnishings and household cleaning products have created a virtual chemical soup on our homes with no natural method of control.

In the video to the right, Steve Mores demostrates the MicroPowerGuard Air Cleaner and compares it to the most commonly used filters on the market today.

Indoor Air Quality Solutions

Particultes in our indoor air are very small. Particles are commonly measured in microns, a metric unit of measure. There are 25,400 microns in one inch. Just one micorn is equal to 1/25,400th of an inch, or one millionth of a meter. To give you an idea, this ( . ) is approximately 1/64th of an inch wide and equals 615 microns.

Of particular importance when discussing indoor air quality solutions is how effective a product is at capturing and controlling contaminants at 2.5 microns or less in size. Particles less than 2.5 microns are classified as Respirable Suspended Particles (RSP) and the health hazards with these small aprticles is great. RSP's are small enough to evade mucosal capture by the protective cilia and mucosa of the human upper respitory system and invade the deeper reaches of the lungs with serious health consequences. In fact, particles of five microns or less are considered a definite inhalation hazard because of the inability of the human body to effectively filter these particles from the lungs.

Allergenic particles, infectious agents and toxic gases can cause allergic reactions, headeaches, sickness and many other illnesses. Since 98% of airborne contaminants are less than one (1) micron in size, knowing the effectiveness of any product at controlling submicorn particles is very important when making a decision on air purification systems for your home.
